“You say grace before meals.  All right.  But I say grace before the concert and the opera, and grace before the play and pantomime, and grace before I open a book, and grace before sketching, painting, swimming, fencing, boxing, walking, playing, dancing and grace before I dip the pen in the ink.” ~ G.K. Chesterton

In theme with the above quote, I thought I’d focus this week’s gratitude on all the bigger pleasures and hobbies I really enjoy.

This week I am grateful for…

  • the opportunity to watch a play (comedy) in town with my best friend.

  • learning how to hit a golf ball at the driving range.

  • attending a yoga/meditation retreat with my mommy and uncle.

  • basking in the warmth of the sun while reading a good book out on my deck.

  • singing at the top of my lungs to old Jewel video’s on YouTube.

What are you thankful for?

“I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought; and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.” ~ G.K. Chesterton

This week I am grateful for…

  • this awesome sight! I was coming home from work Tuesday afternoon, after a crappy day, feeling miserable, when I saw this. It totally made my day!

After seeing that, I decided to take my camera with me on my walk with the dogs and see what else I could find that made me smile. Here is what I’m grateful for…

  • delightful Sesame Street characters in my neighbours garden. Cookie Monster is my absolute favourite and can always put a big smile on my face.

  • this big cluster of gorgeous Black-Eyed Susan’s amongst the prickly thistles.

  • this silly little dinosaur in the neighbourhood park. Yes, I did ride him and it was awesome.

  • the gorgeous trails I get to walk down, only minutes from my front door.

  • my favourite tree. This tree just rocks. Lightning (or something) tried to knock it down but it just kept on growing, even while laying flat on the ground.

It’s quite amazing how much you can find to be thankful for when you take the time to look for it. I was having the worst day but by shifting my perspective, I was able to find all of those wonderful sights (plus a bunch more) in a 30 minute walk around my neighbourhood.

“As each day comes to us refreshed and anew, so does my gratitude renew itself daily.  The breaking of the sun over the horizon is my grateful heart dawning upon a blessed world.” ~ Terri Guillemets

This week I am grateful for…

  • awesome free stuff from the region. We were lucky enough to receive a free reusable bag filled with “green bin” compost bags plus three coupons for $1 off our next purchases of compost bags. I love free stuff!

  • the most adorable, creepy, realistic cat knick knack I found at the zip line gift shop. So weird and yet too cute! It even has a little button on the bottom that emits an annoying, hilarious meowing noise when you press it.

  • local corn on the cob. Yum Yum!

  • my new doctor. My old doctor retired last year and we were sent to this new doctor chick who just sucked. She laughed at me, refused to listen to me or believe anything I said and actually made me cry once. A couple of months ago, my mom, siblings and I were able to transfer to another doctor and I had my very first appointment with her yesterday. I am very happy to report that she is just fabulous. The whole staff there is awesome.

  • rain. The last few weeks have been extremely hot, humid and sunny which I love but unfortunately the grass and flowers don’t. Today it rained for the first time in what seems like forever and all the plants got a much needed shower and drink of water. **If you love hearing the rain as much as I do, click here

“Real life isn’t always going to be perfect or go our way, but the recurring acknowledgement of what is working in our lives can help us not only to survive but surmount our difficulties.” ~ Sara Ban Breathnach

Although this week has been filled with a number of “speed bumps“, I am still looking at the glass as half full and finding the good in each situation. This week I am grateful for…

  • The giant spider web I almost walked face-first into but saw at the last moment. It was a close-call, which is something to be grateful for in itself, but it also teaches me to be more aware of my surroundings.

  • Feeling like crap lately. Although I certainly don’t enjoy feeling weak and fatigued, it allows me the opportunity to know what excellent feels like in comparison. Also, I know that nothing lasts forever and I will be feeling like my old self soon enough.

  • The farm dog that didn’t run out in front of my car. Even though I hate the fact that some owners allow their dogs to roam free, I’m very thankful that this dog was trained enough to stay at the side of the road while I drove by.

  • The super-duper hot, humid weather we are having right now. While it is certainly a little extreme (it is currently 46C/115F with the humidex), it is so, so much better than the frigid, windy conditions of winter.

  • My little cone head dog. Although I feel super bad that he has to wear the cone-of-shame, I’m grateful that we found his hot spot in time and were able to get prompt, excellent treatment from our awesome vet.

“Giving thanks for abundance is sweeter than the abundance itself…” ~ Rumi

In this edition of The Little Things I’d like to celebrate all the beautiful living, life giving trees in our wonderful world.

I love trees. I just love everything about them. They suck up our nasty carbon dioxide and convert it to beautiful breathable oxygen. They reduce noise and filter out pollution. They offer shade on a hot, sunny day and they generously share their fruit and flowers with us. They provide homes for many birds, squirrels, chipmunks and insects while also sacrificing themselves to provide wood for our own homes. They come in a wide array of beautiful colours, sizes, shapes and variety. You can climb them, carve your initials into them or just relax under their loving branches. You can take cover under them in the rain or bright sun. You can use their big branches to attach your tire swing to or you can take the time to build a big old tree house up in their wide limbs.

Trees are just plain awesome! So the next time you’re walking down the street, are playing at the park or just driving by a forest, take a moment to look out at the trees, smile a big smile and be grateful that we have them in our lives. 🙂

“If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, “thank you,” that would suffice.” ~ Meister Eckhart

It has been another fun-filled week of awesome. This week I am grateful for…

  • My very first sugar-containing food item in 10 months. A chocolate Frosty from Wendy’s.

  • Green lights. My best friend and my motto is “think green”. It’s our reminder to focus on the good things, like green lights, instead of only noticing the bad things, like getting caught at red lights.

  • My big scared dogs. My dogs are usually quite brave, they bark and run at everything that moves or makes a noise except one particular thing…the bedroom door getting blown shut by the wind. This totally freaks them out and although I shouldn’t be thankful for their fear, it does make me laugh out loud when the two of them crawl under the desk together in a fit of fright.

  • Colourful vegetables. There is just something so awesome about a vibrant meal that’s both healthy and fun to look at.

  • SuperSHOCK Mascara from Avon. The BEST mascara I have ever used!

What are you thankful for today?
